POLS 221 Latin American Politics

This course is an analysis of Latin American politics in the 20th century with a focus on contemporary democratic politics. The course will discuss the historical institutional and social forces that have both accelerated and opposed democratization and will cover topics of current concern to the region including economic development security and the rule of law the design of political institutions human rights and social movements.
