ARTS 218 Printmaking: The Body as Matrix

In three projects and a print exchange, students will make artwork that is experimental and experiential: exploring printmaking as it relates to their own body, and utilizing printmaking in ways that are performative, interactive, and large scale. Students will engage with academic readings, guest artists, and each other's artwork. You will work in monotype, etching, and woodcut relating each assignment to your physical presence, or your and the viewer's physical interaction with the process and the print. This course will expand your understanding of what is considered a print, cultivate insight into your own art making process and your intellectual understanding of art as a means of communication.
