CORE 117 Entrepreneurial Citizenship in the 21st Century City

This course examines the role of entrepreneurs in generating replacements for the status quo. Throughout this course, we'll focus on entrepreneurship’s intersection with citizenship in the context of Los Angeles—a city renowned both for its diversity and innovation.

We’ll take a multidisciplinary approach to understanding entrepreneurship across domains, including commerce, culture, and society. We'll examine how entrepreneurs navigate change differently, the motivations and context that animate new ventures, the impact of policies and norms on entrepreneurship, the dynamics of entrepreneurial ecosystems, and the distinct entrepreneurial potential of urban environments. Through interactive discussions and collaborative projects, you'll gain knowledge and develop analytical skills essential for understanding entrepreneurial activity.

We'll also analyze emerging ventures poised to shape the fabric, character, and identity of Los Angeles in the coming years. By developing an informed perspective on these loci of transformation, we'll become better equipped to take an authentic position on relevant social debates. Through these case studies, we'll emerge from this course empowered to contribute meaningfully to the entrepreneurial landscape of our cities and beyond, whether as participants in a new venture or as stakeholders in their ends.
