PHIL 233 Bioethics

This course will introduce students to fundamental normative and ethical questions that arise in health care and the biological sciences, emphasizing those questions which raise issues of social justice within healthcare. Questions may include the following (among others):  Will emerging technologies, particularly genetic technologies, promote or widen equity gaps in healthcare?  Is it ableist to "treat" disabilities, such as deafness?   How can doctors best communicate across race and class?  Do fetuses have a right to life, and how does abortion access impact different groups across the United States?  Is there a right to die?
