THEA 370 Costume Design

This course concentrates on the skills needed to conceptualize and draw costumes for the stage and screen. In addition to drawing skills, students will learn how to break down scripts to understand and interpret a character’s world and maintain continuity in design. Costume Design is for students with wide-ranging drawing skills, including beginners. Students will learn to draw a variety of fabrics–including sheer fabrics, sequins, feathers, and patterned fabric. Live figure drawing and shorthand sketching techniques provide a foundation for sharing your creative vision. Artistic mediums covered include freehand drawing, digital rendering, and collage. A portion of the course focuses on budgeting and hidden costs in costuming for film and theater.
