SOC 101 Introduction to Sociology

This course introduces students to the sociological imagination—a way of understanding events, relationships, and social phenomena that shape our lives and history. Through a critical evaluation of the theoretical propositions of thinkers in the field, we will explore how people are shaped by society and, in turn, shape it. Students will write papers that articulate an original thesis with supporting evidence, deepening their grasp of how sociology helps us interpret the dynamics of social order and disorder. Open only to frosh and sophomores, or by permission of instructor.
