SPAN 374 Imagination in Argentina through Literature and Film
How do people from a country come to see each other as co-nationals, that is, as part of the same nation? What is the role of imagination in the formation of a national identity? And, what happens when national imagination fails to account for the variety of experiences in a country? In this course we will explore these questions by engaging with literature and film from Argentina such as short stories by Jorge Luis Borges and Mariana Enriquez, poems, films like Santiago Mitre's Argentina, 1985, graphic novels, and short novels. Through themes such as labyrinths, infinite libraries, metafiction, and philosophical paradoxes, students will engage in critical analysis, creative responses, and multimedia storytelling.
