DWA DWA 223 Understanding Human Rights through Literature & Film I: The U.S. Context

This interactive seminar offers a broad introduction to international human rights theory and practice through the lens of poetry, fiction and non-fiction, documentaries, and feature films, with a primary focus on domestic U.S. policies and practices. Situated within the study of the creation and evolution of the international human rights system, the course will engage current issues of debate in the U.S. context, including LGBTQIA* rights, reproductive justice, poverty and homelessness, migrant rights, racial justice and capital punishment, and the future of U.S. democratic institutions.
