MUSC 235 Jazz Expressions

This hands-on course is designed to equip musicians with the essential skills needed to perform jazz at a high level. Students will explore core elements of performance, including count-offs, song endings, learning and internalizing repertoire, chart writing, basic arranging, form analysis, and stylistic approaches to improvisation. Students will engage in focused listening, transcription, and analysis of influential jazz artists. Through this process, students will work collaboratively to recreate iconic performances and develop their own unique musical expressions.
