SPAN 377 Latin American Comics and Graphic Novels

This course explores Latin American comics and graphic novels as a powerful medium for storytelling, social critique, and historical memory. Through the lens of visual and textual analysis, we will examine how artists and writers use the graphic novel format to address themes such as migration, gender, class, and resistance, among others. Students will engage with a diverse range of Latin American works in Spanish, from early comic strips to speculative fiction, historical retellings, and surrealist explorations of identity.
