CTSJ 261 Race, Gender, Class, and the Media
This course critically examines representations of gender, race, class, and sexuality in popular culture and mass media. We will discuss how race and gender are represented and produced in the media; how media production is raced, gendered, and sexed; and how to effectively analyze the relationship between identity, difference, and media. Students will critically assess theories of representation and cultural studies in our examination of race, gender, and other categories in media texts such as news and journalism, television, film, radio, internet, and social media.
