THEA 101 Dramatic Literature: The Art of Reading Scripts
Reading a play offers a challenge unlike all other written narratives – for plays are not meant for the page, but for the stage. In this course we study contemporary playscripts investigating the relationship between textual construction and theatrical enactment. What is the author trying to do and how are they trying to do it? Our discussions focus on the essential elements of theatrical writing: character, story structure, language, and thematics – and how these come most alive when staged. We enhance our understanding through creative projects and attending live performances in the greater Los Angeles area. There is a ticket fee not to exceed $75 for this course.
