Transfer Credit Policies
When judging whether a course taken at another institution can count as an Oxy Religious Studies course, we look for two things:
- That the course takes the same approach to the study of religion as our department—aligning with our intellectual commitments, and our learning goals & outcomes.
- That the course requires the same level of rigor as courses in our department, in terms of high-quality and amount of readings, quality and amount of assignments, etc.
For our RELS Major/Minor, we allow for one course to be transferred towards a RELS major/ minor from outside of Oxy, including from Study Abroad programs.
For our RELS + X Major, we allow for up to two courses to be transferred towards a major/ minor from outside of Oxy, including from Study Abroad programs. These two courses will be counted towards the four courses (16 units) from another department, discipline, or area of specialization.
Otherwise, the Religious Studies Department policy on transfer credit conforms to College policy. Students should reference the Transfer Credit section for details.
